Local Castles
Right on our doorstep of this self-catering Barn are a host of castles and historic monuments. We are in an area which has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in Britain. Must sees locally are Raglan Castle, Eastnor, Abergavenny, and Longtown castle and, whilst not strictly castles, Llanthony Priory and Tintern Abbey are worth seeing.
Hellens Manor
This beautiful manor contains a myriad of period furnishings, artefacts, paintings and decorations. The property boasts a beautiful romantic English Garden incorporating a rare 17th century octagonal dovecot, a physic garden and numerous other gardens. Their tearoom is open during public tour times on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons serving fresh tea, coffee and home-made cakes. For more info click here
Three Castles Walk
A route from Offa's Dyke on the borderlands of England and Wales connects the three Norman fortresses of Skenfrith, White Castle and Grosmont. The walk passes through undulating countryside and secluded historic farmhouses, where hedgerows and small woods have survived to keep the area rich in wildlife. For more info click here
The Waterworks Museum
The Waterworks Museum at Hereford is quite unique, telling the story of water as the lifeblood of the city. It has the widest
range of pumping engines working on one site in Britain - on show is everything from the beam engines of the Industrial Revolution
up to the most modern submersible pumps. The Museum hosts the oldest triple-expansion steam engine working in Britain. The main
building is a splendid example of Victorian architecture and, for those less excited by mechanics, the site is located next
to the River Wye and has lovely views!
